Growing blankets is more complicated. There is no single gene PATN2, which is supposed to be responsible for the white drawing. Rather, it seems to be the case that there are a number of white modifiers, each around 10%, starting at just over 0, which additively increase and are responsible for the size of the white drawing. If we just assume that there are maybe 5 or 6 of these modifiers, and we just look at an example, stallion large blanket, 60%, mare solid 0% then statistically we can assume 30% white markings in foals. If the stallion is heterozygous for the modifiers, this can vary between 60% and 0%. Most stallions are by far, if one or more of these modifiers are homozygous, the stallion would always have to pass on a white mark. With two that would hypothetically be 20%. At the moment I am not aware of any stallions related to this.
